Product
Overview
Skim-Kote
is a polymer-modified portland cement based concrete finishing material
designed to give a smooth, dense surface and superior life compared
to gypsum-based fillers. |
Benefits
- Eliminates
the need for concrete rubbing.
- Tenacious
bond, excellent durability and impact strength.
- Long life,
with excellent resistance to freeze-thaw, weathering and UV damage.
- Finely graded
aggregates allow very thin applications.
- Simple application
with trowel.
- Mixes easily
with clean water.
- Polymer is
proportioned in package for consistent quality.
- Non-re-emulsifiable.
- Economical.
- VOC compliant,
non-toxic.

Examples
of Use
Recommended
uses include finishing cast-in-place concrete, pre-cast concrete,
and tilt-up walls. Skim-Kote fills "bug holes" and other minor surface
defects to achieve a smooth, dense, long-lasting surface. Major patching
and leveling should be done with Merlex Super Concrete Patch before
application. |

Components
and Storage
Skim-Kote
is available in 50 lb. (22.68 kg) pails and bags. Stretch wrapping
available. Must be kept in dry storage area. Shelf life is six month
if properly stored. |

Coverage
50
lbs. (22.68 kg) of Skim-Kote will cover approximately 150 to 175 sq.
ft. (13.8 to 16.1 m3) at 1/32" (1.8mm) thickness. Coverage will vary
depending on concrete surface, application procedures and job site
conditions. |

Surface
Preparation
All receiving
surfaces must be structurally sound, clean, free of loose or deteriorated
materials, dust, dirt, form release agents or any other contaminant
which could hinder bonding ability. Major repairs and patch work
should be completed prior to application. Skim-Kote is not designed
to be a leveling material; use Merlex Super Concrete Patch. The
receiving surface should be lightly dampened with clean water, so
it is saturated surface dry (SSD) with no standing water.

Mixing
Approximately
7.25 quarts (6.9 ltr) of clean, potable water are required for each
50 lbs. (22.68 kg) of Skim-Kote. Skim-Kote should be mechanically
mixed with slow speed drill motor and paddle to produce a smooth,
workable consistency. Do not over water product. Mixing time should
not exceed 90 seconds. Do not re-temper. Note: During
hot/dry weather use ice water for mixing for longer working life.
Application
Skim-Kote should
be evenly troweled to the substrate with enough pressure to ensure
tight contact and the filling of pores and voids. Immediately double
back with a second coat prior to final troweling, achieving a total
average thickness of 1/32" (1.8mm). Avoid unnecessary build-ups,
which can cause shrinkage or crack-checking. For final troweling,
lightly mist with clean water and trowel to a smooth, dense surface.
After material has sufficiently hardened, a fine water mist can
be used for moist curing.

Clean
Up
After
completing work, clean all mixing equipment and application tools
immediately with water. During application, protect surrounding areas
from spills and splatters. |
Limitations
Do
not use when temperature exceeds 100° F (39° C) or will fall below
40° F (4° C) within 24 hours of application. Do not apply to frost
filled areas. Do not exceed 1/8" (3 mm) total thickness. Do not use
over painted or gypsum-based surfaces. During periods of hot/dry or
windy weather conditions, moist curing is necessary to prevent premature
dryout. For professional use only.
